Thanks to youtube, you can learn to make your very own birch bark canoe with Ray Mears. There are about seven clips and I will post one each day, starting today.

Follow Courtney, Riley, and Nick (students from Unity College in Maine taking the North American Indians Class) as they restore a 25lb, 14' birch bark canoe. Bill Beute (whereabouts unknown) donated the canoe in the late 1970s with canoe magazines that were thrown out. Chris Marshall, the class's professor, will provide guidance as they attempt to restore this canoe. The final plan is to hang the canoe from the ceiling in the Quimby Library.
